ADAS Recalibration

ADAS Recalibration: Keeping Your Safety Systems Accurate

If your vehicle has lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, or other camera-based safety features, those systems need to be recalibrated every time your windshield is replaced. We handle that for you—with professional equipment, trained technicians, and the precision these systems require.

Autel-certified calibration • Static & dynamic • All makes & models

Your Windshield Is Smarter Than You Think

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System—the umbrella term for safety features like lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. These features work through cameras mounted to your windshield, along with sensors and radar around your vehicle. When your windshield is replaced, that camera must be recalibrated.

Forward Collision Alert (FCA)

Warns you when you're approaching the vehicle ahead too quickly.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)

Applies the brakes automatically if you don't respond to a collision warning in time.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

Alerts you when your vehicle starts drifting out of its lane without a turn signal.

Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

Goes further than LDW—gently steers you back into your lane if you start to drift.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Maintains your set speed but automatically slows down to keep a safe distance from traffic ahead.

Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)

Reads speed limit and other road signs and displays them on your dashboard.

If your vehicle has any of these features, there's a camera behind your windshield making them work—and it needs to be recalibrated any time that windshield is replaced.

What Happens If You Skip It?

Think of it like a rifle scope. If you remove the scope and mount it on a different rifle—or even remove it and put it back on the same one—it needs to be re-sighted. The camera behind your windshield works the same way.

When the windshield is replaced, the camera's position shifts, even if only slightly. Without recalibration, it will not be aimed accurately.

These aren't inconveniences—they're safety failures. Without recalibration, your lane departure warning could alert at the wrong time. Your automatic braking could activate too early or too late. Your adaptive cruise control might misread the distance ahead. Your vehicle was designed to rely on these systems working exactly as specified.

Our Policy: No Windshield Without Calibration

We will not replace a windshield on an ADAS-equipped vehicle without also calibrating the camera system. The risk is too great. Your safety features need to work exactly as designed, and we won't cut corners on that.

Two Types of Calibration. We Do Both.

Different vehicles require different calibration methods. Some need one, some need the other, some need both. We determine what your vehicle requires and handle it accordingly.

Static Calibration

Performed in our shop using specialized targets and equipment positioned at precise distances in front of your vehicle. The camera system is calibrated to exact manufacturer specifications in a controlled environment.

This is why some vehicles need to come to our shop rather than receiving mobile service—the calibration equipment requires specific space and conditions.

Dynamic Calibration

Performed by driving the vehicle at a specific speed on well-marked roads while the system recalibrates itself using road markings and real-world inputs. Diagnostic equipment is connected during the drive to verify the calibration.

Some vehicles require only dynamic calibration, which can be completed after a mobile installation.

Autel-Equipped and Autel-Trained

We use Autel calibration systems—one of the leading names in automotive diagnostic and ADAS calibration equipment. Our technicians have been trained directly by Autel on the proper use of this equipment and on calibration procedures for a wide range of vehicle makes and models.

This matters because calibration isn't a one-size-fits-all process. Different manufacturers have different specifications, different target placements, and different calibration requirements. Our equipment and training cover virtually all of them.

Pre- & Post-Calibration Scan

Upon request, we provide a diagnostic scan before and after calibration. This report shows all of the control modules your vehicle has and any trouble codes stored in its computer—including the module related to the windshield camera, confirming it has been calibrated.

When Is Recalibration Required?

1

After a Windshield Replacement

This is the most common scenario. When we replace your windshield, recalibration is built into our process. We won't skip it—ever.

2

After Another Shop Replaced Your Windshield

If you had your windshield replaced elsewhere and the camera wasn't recalibrated—or wasn't recalibrated properly—we can do it. We're happy to calibrate after another shop's installation, though the success of the calibration depends in part on the quality of the glass installation itself.

3

After Windshield Removal for Body Work

Sometimes body and paint work requires the windshield to be removed. When it's re-installed, calibration is necessary to ensure accuracy.

We Calibrate Virtually Every Vehicle on the Road

Our Autel calibration systems cover the vast majority of makes and models, from domestic trucks and SUVs to European and luxury vehicles. We regularly calibrate ADAS systems on:

PorscheMercedes-BenzLand RoverJaguarBMWAudiVolvoTeslaSubaruHondaFordChevroletGMCHyundaiToyotaNissanKia& many more
High-end and European vehicles: We recommend pairing OEM glass with professional recalibration. The tighter fit and factory specifications of OEM glass give the camera the best possible foundation for an accurate calibration. We can provide OEM glass, expert installation, and calibration as a complete, one-stop service.

Is Recalibration Covered by Insurance?

When ADAS recalibration is required as part of a windshield replacement, it is included in the insurance claim. Insurance companies recognize that calibration is a necessary part of a proper windshield replacement on equipped vehicles, and they cover it accordingly.

Bundled With Replacement or Standalone

 With a Windshield Replacement

Recalibration is built into the job. When we replace a windshield on an ADAS-equipped vehicle, we calibrate the camera as part of the same appointment. You don't need to schedule it separately or take your vehicle somewhere else. One stop, one shop.

 As a Standalone Service

If another shop replaced your windshield but didn't calibrate, or if you need recalibration after a collision, we can do the calibration on its own. Just call us with your vehicle's VIN and we'll let you know what's involved.

A note about other shops' work: We're happy to calibrate after another shop's installation, but the success of any calibration depends on the quality of the windshield installation itself. If the glass wasn't installed properly, it can affect the camera's alignment and the calibration outcome. We'll let you know if we see any issues.

Need ADAS Recalibration?

Whether it's part of a windshield replacement or a standalone service, we'll make sure your safety systems are calibrated to factory specifications. Call us with your VIN and we'll walk you through exactly what your vehicle needs.
